Things I learnt at last nights Deftones gig at Brixton Academy;
Chino likes apple juice. He wished to share his love with us. It was on him at the bar.
Chino dislikes Top Man - No man would buy clothes from there…fruity-boy shit, Top Boy…
Deftones love the bass drum.
In a live performance, some songs work well and others don’t due to the limitations of live sound and acoustics of the venue. Most songs from last nights Deftones set did sound spot on but a few older tracks lost their impact; notably ‘Headup’ and ‘Dai The Flu’.
Overall I had a good time. The setlist was spread over 16 years of material and there were omissions I’d liked to have heard. ‘You’ve Seen The Butcher’ and ‘Romantic Dreams’ were the two I missed hearing.
I’ve seen better gigs and experienced better sound at Brixton Academy over the years. Fugazi played there on the 9th May 1992 and made things simple but so,so organic when it came to representing their music in a live performance. It is definitely the standard to be judged by.
I do hope this is not my last gig of 2013.
